Totally Rad Deftones Concert Review!

by: Brink | Thursday, June 28, 2007

deftones2
Check out how close I was to the stage! Can you see the band? Me neither!

Deftones played at the Viejas Casino last night near San Diego. I headed down, as always, stoked to see 'em. Deftones are one of my favorite bands ever and, as you know, etnies is co-sponsoring their current US tour. Upon arrival, I had a bit of press pass drama (this happens all the time for any of you who might want the glamour job of a journalist) and wasn't able to get backstage credentials for some good photos, so instead, you can check out my totally awesome blurry ghetto cam shots from 55 miles away!

deftones1
Check it out! Possible naked chick on the video screen!

Despite that malarkey, the show was awesome. Deftones always kill it. Period. For those of you who have been longtime fans, or like the early albums, they played a ton of stuff off Adrenaline and Around the Fur--a few songs I haven't heard them play in a while. Tonight is the LA show and I'm hoping the switch up the setlist a bit and also hoping to grab some better flix for y'all to check out before the weekend. Wish me luck!

deftones3
Yeah dude... more chicks!
arto2brink
At least I can get a clear photo of my new favorite Arto 2s! Sooo red! They are dope! I wonder if Chi has a pair of these!

Chi's Back!

by: Brink | Tuesday, June 19, 2007

chi and lady

Hello y'all,

The large and angry Asian checkin' in. We're at the Riveria in Chi-town, going to keep this short ‘cause my beautiful wife is out and we're too busy havin’ bus and bunk sex to check in. So, I ain’t so angry right now. Here's a picture of us and here a poem for ya to chew on:

“A Soundtrack for the Silver Screen”

I had a dream-as I was walking up today
that I was on a trip to a coastal city
which was being pounded by thirty foot
waves and was quickly vanishing underwater
I was so excited I ran to the window
to watch the sea pull herself up-and drag us back in
I saw a father grab his son
before another wave came down....but
unfortunately the water was receding
and I woke up mildly-disappointed
in London-with the shades pulled tight
it was raining but not under
water when I looked out and-again
I felt a little disappointed
though I'm sure-I wont have to wait
for much longer
we march on with or without your blessing
in small rooms with bad lighting
and the news of foreign wars
and north Korea-testing the bomb underground
which we're now
assigning the most brilliant of analysts
to figure out-whether they will
use it or not
and it was easier when I was a child
and had the cold war
and an abusive father
who was a Vietnam veteran
and a cardiologist
evil was a lot more tangible
in my ghost childhood
and I could see
the enemy
clearly drawing sides
everyday it was either nuclear war with the Russians
or my fathers fists
and I knew what to expect
so I was ready
with a confidence that comes from
having fear
and what little defense I could scrape
hell I wouldn't of even thought
I was abused
I figured that this was how it was
for everyone
and now sadly
I feel it may be just that
we've become one
in our sufferings
like the Buddhists and the liar poets
and the main problem left
as I can see it
is the laughter is no longer
there
and the jokes just getting good.
See, I will always maintain a certain level of consistent assholeness.

Be good,

Ghengis Cheng

Leaving the Right Soleprint

by: Brink | Thursday, June 14, 2007

passheck

For Immediate Release – June 12, 2007

Lake Forest, Calif. – Driven by his vision and spirit for a company successful on the balance sheet, the streets, the slopes, the ocean and ultimately on our amazing planet, Pierre Andre Senizergues embodies the genuine qualities as a true leader by revolutionizing the future of action sports and the way Sole Technology does business. For his environmental endeavors, Senizergues was honored on June 9 at the 11th Annual Global Green USA and Green Cross International Millennium Awards as this year’s recipient of the Corporate Environmental Leadership Award. As CEO and founder of Sole Technology, parent company to top action sports brands etnies, éS, Emerica, Altamont and ThirtyTwo, Senizergues has set a positive example for his peers in business and media by greening his company and speaking out about the need to take action to protect the environment and leaving the right footprint, or in Pierre’s case, soleprint.

In 2002, under the leadership of Senizergues, Sole Technology began making changes to protect the environment in their business practices. Recently, Sole Technology added to its list the conversion to waterless urinals at its headquarters to promote water conservation. Saving up to 250,000 gallons of water each year, that’s equivalent to approximately an Olympic size swimming pool, three million cups of coffee, and what matters most to the action sports industry, two and a half million bottles of beer.

In addition to Senizergues’ vision and full commitment to corporate responsibility other initiatives include the installation of 616 solar panels, the conversion to water-based cement manufacturing, company-wide recycling efforts, the addition of the first-ever environmental affairs manager and the launch of a sustainable footwear and apparel collection, the etnies SEED Project. Senizergues has also recently teamed up with Leonardo Dicaprio and Tree Media as executive producer for the upcoming and highly-anticipated documentary, THE 11th HOUR, set to open in theaters in fall 2007. Senizergues supports the film in hopes to create awareness and discussion around the issues we are facing and the environmental movement to motivate people to reduce the size of footprint they leave behind on our planet and for future generations.

Global Green USA was founded by former president Mikhail Gorbachev and serves as a national environmental organization addressing and creating a new approach to solving the world's most pressing environmental challenges by reconnecting humanity to the environment. Senizergues’ name is added to a prestigious list of past Millennium Award recipients like Leonardo DiCaprio, Ted Turner, Joan Bavaria, Paul Hawken, Gary Hirshberg, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Suzuki, Winona LaDuke, Ray Anderson, and many more outstanding leaders.

“I’m honored personally and professionally to recognize a leader like Pierre that understands the important connection between humankind and the environment,” says Matt Peterson, CEO of Global Green. “Global Green recognizes those unique leaders who embody our mission and are an inspiration to others.”

Known for pioneering technological advances in skateboard footwear, Pierre Andre Senizergues and Sole Technology have stayed true to its skateboarding roots while pushing the envelope as a corporate leader of sustainability in the industry and will continue its efforts in doing the right thing. Check out Pierre’s award presentation.

Chi's Third!

by: Brink | Friday, June 8, 2007

Here's the latest from Chi, the most badass bass player of all...

Hello Y’all,

I just took some time to be a human being and got away from the stale water “fishbowlthinklesstank” where I swim in my own shit. Thank you to the wonderful fans that attended the Washington D.C shows at the 9:30 club, we had a great time. One of my oldest and dearest friends and college roommate, John, picked me up and we took his boat out from the Valentine Creek, through the Severn River, to Annapolis. We then found a nice cove to do some fishing and crabbing, where I caught five Maryland blue crabs with a piece of chicken dangling from some string and a catch net. This was a really nice way to spend the day. I must say that I got a kick out of some quotes your crack-head mayor Marion Barry had to say:

“If you take out the killings, Washington actually has a very, very low crime rate."

-By God he’s right.

"Bitch set me up."

-Me too Marion

"I am clearly more popular than Reagan; I am in my third term. Where’s Reagan? Gone after two! Defeated by George Bush and Michael Dukakis no less"

-That’s right, and he was in a movie with a fuckin’ monkey.

"The laws in this city are clearly racist. All laws are racist. The law of gravity is racist."

-Wait a minute, I’ve read a lot of Newton and a lot of Einstein and I’m pretty sure the laws of gravity don’t give a fuck about race.

Well, this is your elected official folks—a real thinking man. But anyhow, today I am in Providence, RI where Dir En Grey joins the summer tour and takes the stage for the first time at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel. I am excited, not only because it is going to be a great show, but also because there are more Asians out here now. Providence is a nice city with pockets that remind me of San Francisco. Speaking of San Fran, I must try to get my wife out here soon, I saw a trannie in the city pages and I felt oddly turned on. I wondered if there is a loophole where as it wouldn’t be considered cheating on my wife if “shim” had a cock and balls.

I was going to punish you with some of my poetry, but I will save it for next time. I have given you guys enough shit to chew on. For now, my prayers go out to Paris who is looking great in jail, and to all the other rich and famous druggies. Are you holding? If so, please call (916) XXX-XXXX and let’s hang.

As always,

The secret love child of Charles Bronson and Margrot Cho,

Charlie Cho Cho

A Baby Named etnie!?!!

by: Brink | Friday, June 8, 2007

etkid

Got this email from a woman named Keeley Cruickshanks a few weeks ago! She named her daughter Etnie and sent us some pix!

I named my daughter Etnie, as my fiancé is a sponsored rider, not by etnies, but we both loved the word and thought it would make a good name for our baby girl who is now 9 months old. In Ireland it means "a saint" after Saint Etienne. "Etnie" is the female version. I am at the moment trying to get Etnie in to baby modeling so if u ever need a baby model for etnies clothing in catalogs or something just holla'. We would be more than happy to represent etnies clothing. Thanks!

Chi Checks In!

by: Brink | Monday, June 4, 2007

chi2

The latest from Chi:

Hello y'all,

I’m now in the hornet’s nest of bullshit and lies, Washington D.C. I will do my best to refrain from too much politicizing and opinionating as opinions are like assholes—we've all got one and we think everyone else’s stinks except ours. I’m simply against bullshit. If any politician would just be a little fucking frank with us, I would be more willing to accept things.

“We need the oil and I stand to make a huge profit personally—do you mind?” Well, yes, but at least you were honest.

We’ve successfully averted a bomb plot at Kennedy National Airport, but we shouldn’t stop asking “Why?”

Why do people who don’t know us want to bomb us? Why do we want to bomb people we don’t know? Is there really any justification for violence at all with the cognition we have nowadays? Hell, I don’t know.

Don't think I'm some hippidy dippidy dumbshit who is oblivious to the state of human nature and conflict. It is a constant throughout all of civilization, but it must always be questioned and dissected. If we are to kill, I want a fuckin’ autopsy. I'm not against the boys and girls over there—the men and the women. I just hate to see them dying for some abstract bullshit we've been forced to believe. They should be here at home playing X-Box and drinkin’ and trying to get laid.

I'm pro troops; they're brave as shit, now bring 'em home.

I will compliment the government on the sanctions imposed on Darfur, although the U.N. won’t call it genocide. The latest research puts the death toll at "no fewer than 200,000," please do what you can personally. I implore you.

Also, feel free to dress up anytime you like. Its fun and shouldn’t be reserved just for Halloween. I apologize, I accidentally read the New York Times while watching CNN today and apparently have had some kind of adverse reaction.

Onto brighter things, the show in Philly last night was fucking amazing! You are a lovely crowd and it’s much appreciated. You (Philly) also have a great Chinatown. I bought the Emperor’s Yellow Medicine, the greatest book on traditional Chinese medicine and a Chinese flute. I’m not sure you will ever hear it on any Deftones recordings, but you never know. I want to personally thank all our friends and fans. Your continued support and love has kept us alive. Thank you.

Postcards from over the edge,

Chairman Cheng

"Musically influenced and artistically driven."

This is the foundation for the Fall ’07 Just Signed apparel collection, inspired by musicians on the verge of making a name for themselves and getting signed to a label. Starving one day and all the rage the next.
